Making ready mades, or in many cases, more precisely “assisted” ready mades, the biggest challenge is finding the right object. These results span many decades. One of the first, “Electric Possible,” made in the 1990s, gave its title to a concert series for experimental music I organized in the early 2000s. “Natural History” also dates to the 90s, resulting directly from a one day temp job in Orlando, FL, pulling staples from car rental documents to be digitally scanned. “Loose Abacus” existed as an idea only until a few years ago when I finally assembled the materials. “Repository,” “File,” and “Black Seed” were made so long ago I forgot what the original titles (if any) may have been. I made “Verre Chants” a couple years ago as a Fluxus device for sounding. I’ve been collecting materials for other sculptures, but still waiting for the magic piece that makes them what they want to be.
