Ranger Magazine #4 was released in January 2024 featuring a wide array of experimental work in many formats. I’m pleased to be represented with two videos and six poems. The videos are “Tiger Song” and “ET ABC,” both featuring asemic language imagery and asemic vocals in the electronic soundtrack by Hearasay in Paradox Lust. The poems are “baiting,” “better get,” “whether tube or tunnel,” “we must,” “pointers pointing,” and “way out.” You can view the videos here and the poems here.
Ranger is a new literary magazine focusing on experimental text, visual and hybrid work from the editor of the defunct Angry Old Man journal. Ranger #2 was released on August 3, filled with experiments of all kinds. Witness the contents here. I’m pleased to be represented by a portfolio of new work including video, video stills/vispo, and text pieces.
My video “Phantom Broadcast” features asemic visual elements and an electronic soundtrack that includes asemic vocalizations. I pulled 20 stills from the video to demonstrate the asemic text. You can view this stuff here.

The last issue of Otoliths, Issue 70 for Southern Winter, was published July 30, and it bows out in classic encyclopedic style, covering an even wider gathering of experimental poets, writers and artists from around the world than ever before. As editor Mark Young noted in his announcement email, “This last issue is immense & ranges from the dunes of Oceano across to the battlefields of Ukraine, from Scandinavia down to the unceded lands of South Australia. It contains reviews, memoirs, collages, photographs, paintings, vispo, text poems, short stories, videos, combinations of the preceding plus a few other things.” The contents is too huge to paste on this post, but can be marveled at here.
I can’t say enough good things about Otoliths, as it has always seemed like the literary journal of record for the “international avant garde” ever since I discovered it in 2016, and I’ve been grateful for all the times my work has appeared on its pages. This last blast is no exception. You can find new video, vispo and text from me in these pages.
My video “New Brain Imprint” incorporates asemic textual elements in the imagery as well as what I’m calling “asemic vocalizations” in the electronic soundtrack (credited to my music project Hearasay in Paradox Lust). Otoliths will be missed. It’s passing leaves a huge void in the literary journal world. But we will (hopefully) have the online archives in perpetuity, and there are print versions to be acquired on Lulu. Long live Otoliths!
Otoliths #67, the Southern Spring 2022 issue, dropped on October 31 just in time for Halloween. Puns about the issue being filled with both tricks and treats aside, it’s another encyclopedic view of the international literary avant garde with visual poetry, art work, text pieces, essays and hybrid forms from around the world. I’m pleased to be represented by a selection of visual and text pieces, including an asemic video called “Silent Letters,” which includes some of my original experimental electronic music, and ten stills from the video. These are asemic vispo in themselves. The Southern Winter 2022 issue of Otoliths was released today, being #66 and including the usually encyclopedic assortment of avant gardists and work in a variety of modes including text, visual, and hybrid. I’m pleased to be represented once again with a selection of ten works of asemic vispo composed of junk I accumulated over decades of collecting from the street and other random places. A new issue of Otoliths is always an event. The quarterly online literary and arts journal presents an encyclopedic cross section of current avant garde literary and visual experiments from a host of international contributors. It’s a one stop shop for a view of the contemporary experimental scene. Otoliths #63, the “Southern Spring issue” was released yesterday, and it is no exception. Essential reading and viewing.
I’m pleased to be represented in this issue with a selection of visual and text poems from my most recent work. There are ten pieces of vispo composed from a treasure trove of junk I found on the street over decades of scrounging. They can be viewed here. This series can be considered “junk asemic” visual poems, but I really need to come up with a better title for it. The text pieces are part of a large stash of my newest poetry, much more fragmentary in style. These include “If you’re there,” “What awesome was,” “told best,” “Nowhere and Whittaker,” and “recall this dimmer.” You read them here.
The Southern Winter edition of Australian based online lit mag Otoliths, Issue #62, was released today. Every issue of Otoliths functions as an index or encyclopedia of the current streams and practitioners of the literary avant garde, and this one is no exception. As editor Mark Young writes: “It’s another lively issue with a mix of short story, review, photography, poetry, painting, & collage in a variety of styles, by an outstanding list of contributors, often in collaboration, from around the globe.”

The June 2021 issue of online Italian literary journal Utsanga (#28) was released yesterday. As always, it presents a broad range of text and visual works from the international avant garde literary scene, encompassing asemic scripts, visual poems, video works, art installations, criticism, and extended literary modes. I’m pleased to be represented with another installment of my “Xtro diary” series, featuring tape sampled images and asemic writing. You can check it out here.
Otoliths #61, the southern autumn 2021 issue, was released today. It’s jam packed as always with great text, visuals and hybrid works from writers and artists from around the world, reflecting the broad range of literary experimentation in the current era. I’m pleased to be included with nine pieces of visual poetry with asemic elements from a series that seems like diary excerpts from an extraterrestrial colony world. You can check them out here.
Otoliths #58 (Southern Winter 2020) was just released today, as usual packed with “wide ranging-array of wide-ranging material” (according to editor Mark Young)–all in an avant garde vein. Vispo, video, text, etc–essential viewing as quarantines continue through the fall.
I’m pleased to be represented with two “magic gravy” poems: “Gravy Binge” and “Rainbow Kettle.” These pieces are extension of my AI language experiments using a vocabulary restricted to the highlights of American magical thinking.
